Ear training and more - First useful link

Here's a nice little piece of software I found very useful. I can't figure out the guy's name, but the tool he has built is great and doesn't feel like freeware at all, although it is. Browse to the page below for exercises on intervals, chords, scales and more. His blog in general is full of music exploration stuff and is great in its own right, regardless of the fact that it's focused on jazz trumpet playing.

The best way for me to use the tool is random melodies generator - so I'm not exactly training my ear. I'm rather working on my sight reading skills.

Select the "Melodies" section and then the scale and the number of notes, set up the tempo to a comfortable one and then gradually go up. Set the play mode to "SS Delay" and uncheck "Delay Results" tickbox. This will give you a nice training which I believe should be done regularly for good progress.

The tool is also downloadable although it's not recommended due to updates and fixes that the tool will

BTW, if anyone knows the guy's name (or if you happen to be the guy) I'd be very happy to credit him :)

Introductory Post

I thought I would start this blog since I've been looking around at very many websites and searching for advice, software etc. related to learning and improving guitar techniques. There's a general problem of digging through the information on the web, and finding useful stuff is indeed difficult. So I thought - if I do this work and find useful things, why not share them here?

Well here it is then - Guitarist Notes.

A quick note about myself:

I've been playing almost ever since I remember myself, being quite successful at both playing and singing, combining both into less and then more successful performances, but never got to learn the theory behind the music I'm doing. Which was annoying - every time I felt like I'm hitting the wall. Also seeing professional musicians that know what they're doing but are not creative at all or are limited by their knowledge or are just plain boring made me think of what I could do if I only knew what I was doing. So now at a stage when I'm taking another try at learning.

I hope it will be a success for me, in the first place - sorry for my selfishness. But I'd be very happy if some of my notes would help someone out there.

Good luck :)
